Im Zentrum eines funktionsgestörten Kauorgans steht eine hyperaktive Muskulatur.
Dieser Einfluss kann zu nachhaltigen Schäden im Kausystem und anderen angrenzenden Strukturen führen.
Für die zahnmedizinische Funktionstherapie gilt: «Was die Muskulatur entspannt und das neuromuskuläre System re-koordiniert, ist hilfreich und empfehlenswert.»
Neben Themen der Zahnmedizin werden im Vortrag auch andere medizinische Disziplinen einbezogen und praxisorientiertes Wissen
über die konventionelle Schienen-Therapien hinaus vermittelt.

Dr. Kee-Joon Lee is a professor of the Department of Orthodontics, Yonsei University College of Dentistry, S
eoul, Korea. He is former dean of the Yonsei University College of Dentistry. He is currently the president of t
he World Implant Orthodontic Association. He received DDS and PhD degree at the Graduate school, Colleg
e of Dentistry, Yonsei University. He completed the orthodontics specialty training in Yonsei University Dental
Hospital. He was a visiting scholar at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Pennsylvania School of D
ental Medicine in 2002-2004 and at the Division of Plastic Surgery, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in
2010-2011. He was an adjunct professor at the Department of Orthodontics, University of Pennsylvania betw
een 2016 and 2019 and at Temple University between 2010 and 2011. He has contributed many book chapte
rs on biomechanics of miniscrew-driven orthodontics, non-extraction treatment in adults, up-to-date lingual or
thodontic mechanics and surgery-first approached using TADs. He is the first who demonstrated the miniscre
w-assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE) for adults in AJO-DO, which was cited by many other authors. H
e has published many articles and case reports regarding the treatment of non-eruption, and total arch move
ment for hyperdivergent face in orthodontic journals including cover issues in AJO-DO. His fields in research i
nclude clinical biomechanics regarding TADs application and the suture and bone responses to orthodontic st
imulus. He is selected as the 2025 Kokich-Shapiro lecturer and 2025 Nanda lecturer. He has served as a revi
ewer in major orthodontic journals, including AJO-DO, Angle Orthodontists and European Journal of Orthodo
ntics. He has been invited to many international orthodontic conferences around the world.

Often there are clinically challenging situations that require thorough interpretation and optimal troubleshooting.
Treatment of impacted tooth, ankylosed tooth, periodontally compromised teeth require biomechanical reasoning
not based on the appliance itself but actual force system. Hence understanding on the biomechanics of single to
oth movement is crucial.
In addition, unwanted dental arch changes are often encountered if alignment is performed without precise contr
ol of the incisor position. These errors would affect eventual lateral profile of the patients and may adversely affe
ct doctor-patient relationship. Regardless of the appliance types - aligner, self-ligating brackets etc. - tooth move
ment is initiated by the deactivation force system of the appliance. Individual methods have to be established not
by clinical trial but by deductive reasoning. This course will highlight most prevalent clinical problems caused by
appliance-driven approach and suggest effective solutions based on biomechanical reasoning, by addressing the
following questions in each category
